About the Author
Paulo Bellinati is recognized as one of Brazil's top contemporary guitarists. He has recorded and performed with many important Brazilian musicians including the Pau Brasil group, Gal Costa, Leila Pinheiro, Chico Buarque, and Edu Lobo. In 1994 he won Brazil's equivalent of a Grammy, the "Premio Sharp," for arranging the selection on Gal Costa's CD O Sorriso do Gato de Alice. Paulo's recordings and printed music are published and distributed worldwide by Guitar Solo Publications of San Francisco. His arrangements and compositions have been recorded by many contemporary guitarists including John Williams, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, Quaternaglia, Badi Assad, the Assad Duo, Cristina Azuma, the Strano Sisters, Shinichi Fukuda, Timothy Kain, Eduardo Isaac, Ricardo Cobo, and Carlos Barbosa-Lima.

Really nice but very hard

This book has the arrangements exactly as played on the video, however a couple of the nicer songs were left out due to copyright issues as the author explains, he says they may be available in the future. The arrangements are divine, but they are not easy by any means, even the slow songs, but they pack lots of beauty and introspection.

A solid introduction to Ember.js and its ecosystem

This is a solid introduction to Ember.js, as well as ember-cli and ember-data. The book doesn't go into great depth, but it touches on all the important parts of the framework.

I've found it hard to learn Ember.js, because the framework has been in flux and much of the online documentation is out of date. For example, Ember's controllers are scheduled to be deprecated, but a lot of the Ember tutorials were written when controllers were an important part of an Ember application. In this book, the author says: "The Ember team plans to deprecate controllers early in the 2.x release cycle, in favor of performing similar work in the route or in components. Future versions of this book will follow suit, and for now, we’re avoiding using controllers as much as possible." At the time of writing this review, there's not a lot of good advice available online on how to avoid using controllers, which makes the examples in this book all the more valuable.

I also appreciate the way that this book doesn't get distracted by introducing addons for this, that, and the next thing. Each chapter contains a sidebar that points you in the direction of an addon that you might find useful, and those suggestions give you plenty more to read up on if you want.

I've been using Ember.js for about a year now and I wish that I had read this book sooner.

I bought the electronic version and liked the way content is presented. As a new learner of Ember I found this book a great introduction how to work with Ember, with very clear and up to date explanations. It contains tips on useful addons from the Ember addons ecosystem as well as developing and publishing your own addon. It is not a long book so the reader can quickly get started working on apps but perhaps an additional more in depth chapter on how the Ember framework functions behind the scenes would be useful for better understanding.

I bought this book to help me study for a Governmental Accounting class final. I wish I had the book the entire semester. It's a well written, concise book that boils down the intricate details of governmental accounting that is presented in text books into the more manageable and understandable essentials. It must have helped, because I ended up receiving an "A" in the course.

I purchased this book because I was taking a Governmental Accounting class online & the required text was awful! I needed some immediate help, and my instructor was no help so (as usual!), I turned to Amazon.

The title of this book says it all. The author explains the very difficult concepts of governmental accounting very clearly. It is easy to decipher what the funds are and how they inter-relate. This book is very well written and follows a logical, sequencial path. I never would have passed my class without this book!

Not a bad book for a beginning Governmental accounting book. I had no true "accounting" background when I started my job with a government agency, but had done bookkeeping for other businesses using just basics and common sense. It was definately different. This book helps guide you through all the different aspects of governmental accounting. It's very dry reading, but very imformative. You can actually find what you are looking for in the index and go right there and get the info you need quickly. I do recommend it to anyone getting in that type of accounting

How to identify and then leverage the strengths needed to accelerate personal growth and professional development

Those who have read one or more of Marcus Buckingham’s previously published books — First, Break All the Rules: What the World’s Greatest Managers Do Differently (1999), Now, Discover Your Strengths (2001), and Go Put Your Strengths to Work: 6 Powerful Steps to Achieve Outstanding Performance (2007) — already know that his mission in life is to help as many people as he can to accelerate their personal growth and professional development. In my opinion, StandOut 2.0 is his most valuable and will be the most influential book he has written…thus far. He provides an abundance of valuable information, insights, and counsel that can help team members, their leaders, and individuals to identify, nourish, and the leverage the strengths they need to achieve success, however it may be defined.

He suggests they think of the results of the new StandOut Assessment as a “Rosetta Stone” to make sense of the human complexity to which Walt Whitman refers in Song of Myself: “Do I contradict myself? Repeat of the first book.

I used the StandOut assessment with my team at work and it provided very valuable insight as to our similarities and differences. It also gave me great info on how to best lead the various people based on their strengths. The problem with this book is that the assessment is the same as the first book (StandOut). In fact you cannot take the assessment in this book if you've already taken the assessment with the first book. The strengths and much of the info is the same as the first. So there's nothing new here. Original readers of the first book need not waste their money like I did.

About the Author
Wang Ju-Yi is a member of the first graduating class of the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (1962) and has practiced Chinese medicine for over 45 years. After three decades of seeing patients at the Xuan Wu Hospital of Chinese Medicine in Beijing, Dr. Wang retired to edit the prestigious journal Chinese Acupuncture. He has also been a pioneer in developing a private Chinese medical prac�tice in the quickly changing environment of modern Beijing. Jason D. Robertson is a graduate of the American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (San Francisco). He has lived and worked in China and Taiwan for over eight years. He studied Chinese language at Washington and Lee University, and then completed a post-graduate language program at Taiwan Normal University. Mr. Robertson currently maintains a private practice in Seattle, and is on the faculty of the Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine.

An invaluable gem

I have to say a big thank you to the authors of this book for so painstakingly putting their hearts into making Classical Channel Theory so accessible and practical. There are many books out there with great information on Chinese Theory but few offer the same depth of clarity on to how to integrate that information into practice. There is not one Chinese Medical textbook on my shelf that I have read cover to cover like I did this one; the writing is engaging, succinct and sometimes very moving.

Coming from a background of classical acupuncture, channel theory was left out in our training and everyone was scrambling to take continuing education classes on this topic from classically trained practitioners after they graduated. Not having the funds or the time to take these classes I felt like I was missing out on a very important aspect of Chinese Medicine. After reading this book I can honestly say I feel like I have a firm foundation of Channel Theory to integrate into my practice. I have already seen dramatic changes in the outcome of my treatments and love the fact that I use much fewer needles to accomplish this. It is hard to express in words without sounding trite how valuable this book has been to me.

I highly recommend this book to any practitioner of Chinese Medicine or anyone interested in a very accessible explanation of Chinese Medical theory.

Suggests a missing link between clinical observation and general theory

Fills in the missing link between theories recorded in classic text and clinical observation. Unlike western medicine where theory dictates the direction of studies and trials which lead to the development of clinical guidelines, chinese medicine flows the opposite way, clinical observations points the direction of possible theories and slowly over time and generations/dynasties, theories develop. Hence it is not surprising that these theories often contradict each other causing pain and suffering to chinese medical students. This book delivers a possible missing link, suggesting probable mechanisms linking theories and clinical observations. This is by no means the only explanation, nor the best, but much like quantum electrodynamics, more than one theory can deliver the same result either way. Good read for students of chinese medicine.

Best Acupuncture Theory book that I own

I have a strong background in pure TCM from my school, and this book is so much more interesting and usable than Fundamentals of Chinese Medicine is. He even has a couple gems on herbalism interspersed in this book too. It has a lot of depth on Chinese Physiology yet is a pretty easy read (for a practitioner or upper-year student). I am not even near finished yet but I appreciate how it is layed out so far.

It seems like TCM is a conglomerate of disjointed empirical points that merely skims over the channels and wider connections within the body. This book on the other hand doesn't have a spleen chapter and a lung chapter, it has a Tai Yin chapter that breaks itself down into Lung and Spleen. It gives you so much info on how they are related that TCM doesn't delve into. It does go in microscopically and has some pretty nice speculations thrown in about Western Medical parallels which I found useful. But its the fact that it backs up and sees the interrelations that are system wide and more trully holistic that really helps me see the big picture, both literally and figuretively. It does not contradict my TCM training but only a few times from what I've read so far, yet it helps me apply the classics more and deepens my understanding. My intent seems to be sharper during treatments form just the little that I have read. I highly recommend this book to Acupuncturists of ALL styles.

About The Author

Thomas Hobbes of Malmesbury (1588 – 1679) was an English philosopher, best known today for his work on political philosophy. His 1651 book Leviathan established social contract theory, the foundation of most later Western political philosophy.

Though on rational grounds a champion of absolutism for the sovereign, Hobbes also developed some of the fundamentals of European liberal thought: the right of the individual; the natural equality of all men; the artificial character of the political order (which led to the later distinction between civil society and the state); the view that all legitimate political power must be "representative" and based on the consent of the people; and a liberal interpretation of law which leaves people free to do whatever the law does not explicitly forbid.

He was one of the founders of modern political philosophy and political science. His understanding of humans as being matter and motion, obeying the same physical laws as other matter and motion, remains influential; and his account of human nature as self-interested cooperation, and of political communities as being based upon a "social contract" remains one of the major topics of political philosophy.

In addition to political philosophy, Hobbes also contributed to a diverse array of other fields, including history, geometry, the physics of gases, theology, ethics, and general philosophy.

About the Author
Elizabeth R. Lenz, PhD, RN, FAAN is Dean of the College of Nursing at The Ohio State University. Prior to assuming the deanship in September, 2001, she held faculty and academic administrative positions at Columbia University, The Pennsylvania State University, the University of Maryland, Georgetown University and Boston College. Lenz received her baccalaureate degree from DePauw University, Indiana, her master's degree from Boston College, and her doctorate in sociology from the University of Delaware. She is known for her work in doctoral nursing education and in nursing research career has focused on the family as the context for health and illness. Her most recent research concerns the outcomes and quality of nurse practitioner practice. She is on the Editorial Board of Nursing Outlook and between 1999 and 2001 served as an editor of Scholarly Inquiry for Nursing Practice.

Lillie M. Shortridge-Baggett, EdD, RN, FAAN is Professor and Executive Director, Center for Nursing Research, Clinical Practice and International Affairs at the Lienhard School of Nursing, Pace University. She holds joint appointments at the Division of Nursing Science, University Medical Center, Utrecht, The Netherlands and Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. Shortridge-Baggett received her baccalaureate degree from Berea College, Kentucky, and her master's and doctoral degrees from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has been at the forefront of developments in nurse practitioner education, nurse-managed health centers, and health promotion programs.
