Puis il poursuivit ses �tudes � l’acad�mie des Arts de Madrid mais n’obtint jamais son dipl�me. Picasso, qui n’avait pas encore 18 ans, avait atteint le point culminant de sa r�bellion, r�pudiant l’esth�tique an�mique de l’acad�misme et le prosa�sme du r�alisme. Tout naturellement, il se joignit � ceux qui se qualifiaient de modernistes, c’est � dire, les artistes et les �crivains non-conformistes, ceux que Sabart�s appelait �l’�lite de la pens�e catalane � et qui se retrouvaient au caf� des artistes Els Quatre Gats. Durant les ann�es 1899 et 1900, les seuls sujets dignes d’�tre peints aux yeux de Picasso �taient ceux qui refl�taient la v�rit� ultime : le caract�re �ph�m�re de la vie humaine et l’in�luctabilit� de la mort. Ses premi�res oeuvres, catalogu�es sous le nom de �p�riode bleue � (1901-1904), consistent en peintures ex�cut�es dans des teintes bleues, inspir�es par un voyage � travers l’Espagne et la mort de son ami Casagemas. M�me si Picasso lui-m�me insistait fr�quemment sur la nature int�rieure et subjective de la p�riode bleue, sa gen�se et, en particulier, ce monochromatisme bleu, furent des ann�es durant, expliqu�s comme les r�sultats de diverses influences esth�tiques. Entre 1905 et 1907, Picasso entra dans une nouvelle phase, appel�e la �p�riode rose � caract�ris�e par un style plus enjou�, domin� par l’orange et le rose. A Gosal, au cours de l’�t� 1906, le nu f�minin prit une importance consid�rable pour Picasso – une nudit� d�personnalis�e, aborig�ne, simple, comme le concept de �femme �. La dimension que les nus f�minins allaient prendre chez Picasso dans les mois suivants, pr�cis�ment durant l’hiver et le printemps 1907, s’imposa lorsqu’il �labora la composition de son impressionnante peinture connue sous le titre des Demoiselles d’Avignon.
S’il est vrai que l’art africain est habituellement consid�r� comme le facteur d�terminant du d�veloppement d’une sth�tique classique en 1907, les le�ons de C�zanne sont quand � elles per�ues comme la pierre angulaire de cette nouvelle progression. Ceci est li� tout d’abord � une conception spatiale de la toile comme une entit� compos�e, soumise � un certain syst�me de construction. Georges Braque, dont Picasso devint l’ami � l’automne 1908 et avec lequel il mena le cubisme � son apog�e en six ans, fut surpris pas les similitudes entre les exp�riences picturales de Picasso et les siennes. Il expliquait que le �principal objectif du Cubisme �tait la mat�rialisation de l’espace.
A l’issue de sa p�riode cubiste, dans les ann�es 1920, Picasso revint � un style plus figuratif et se rapprocha du ouvement surr�aliste. Il repr�senta des corps difformes et monstrueux mais d’une mani�re tr�s personnelle. Apr�s le bombardement de Guernica en 1937, Picasso r�alisa l’une de ses oeuvres les plus c�l�bres, symbole des horreurs de la guerre. Dans les ann�es 1960, son art changea � nouveau et Picasso commen�a � regarder de plus pr�s les grands ma�tres, s’inspirant dans ses tableaux des oeuvres de Vel�zquez, Poussin, Goya, Manet, Courbet, Delacroix. Les derni�res oeuvres de Picasso �taient un m�lange de styles, devenant plus color�es, expressives et optimistes. Picasso mourut en 1973, dans sa villa de Mougins. Le symboliste russe Georgy Chulkov �crivit : �La mort de Picasso est une chose tragique. Pourtant, combien ceux qui croient pouvoir imiter Picasso ou apprendre de lui sont en v�rit� aveugles et na�fs. Apprendre quoi ? Ces formes ne correspondent � aucune �motion existant hors de l’Enfer. Mission complete, they just as quickly reassemble, reboard the aircraft, and then disappear into the consuming darkness. It is a powerful image—a conjure, if you will—that strikes fear into any enemy of the United States. But the conjure is real. It is a helicopter called the MH-53J/M. That machine is the end result of the evolution of state-of-the-art avionics, communication, and navigation equipment crewed by highly motivated, enthusiastic, and smart young operators well steeped in the principles, heritage, and credo of special operations. It is the classic combination of men and machine. Those aircraft and Airmen were assigned to the US Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), “America’s specialized airpower . . . a step ahead in a changing world, delivering special operations power anytime, anywhere.”1 AFSOC controls a mixed fleet of both rotaryand fixed-wing aircraft to facilitate the fulfillment of that mission. However, the single aircraft that, in its day, has best epitomized that role is the Pave Low helicopter. It, perhaps more than any other aircraft, allowed the AFSOC to realize its purpose. But it was not always so. The aircraft themselves were revolutionary combinations of new, more powerful turbine engines with rotarywing aircraft to produce vastly increased lifting power. Conceptualized, built, and designated for simpler missions, they were immediately swept up into the long war in Southeast Asia. There they proved the efficacy of the aircraft for dangerous rescue missions, for the initiation of a whole new generation of developing avionics and navigation technology, for providing challenging direct support to small special forces teams and indigenous forces inserted behind enemy lines, and for a myriad of other things that heavy-lift helicopters could be assigned to do. In accomplishing all of that, they also trained a whole generation of men who learned of combat along the Ho Chi Minh Trail in Laos and at other places like Quang Tri, South Vietnam; Son Tay, North Vietnam; and Koh Tang Island, Cambodia. After that conflict, those aircraft and men were returned to peacetime locations and duties, and much was forgotten of those dangerous times and missions. However, a cadre of dedicated combat aviators and commanders felt that the aircraft and community of Airmen had much more to give. Foreseeing an ever-dangerous world, they harnessed those aircraft to a series of evolving new technologies that vastly improved the aircraft by giving them the ability to traverse airspace in any weather conditions, day and night, and to avoid enemy threats. That concept was validated in operations in Panama, Kuwait, Iraq, Serbia, Afghanistan, and many more smaller and quieter operations in between. The men and aircraft also showed the larger utilitarian value of the aircraft as, over the years, they were called out many times to provide natural disaster and humanitarian relief from Africa to New Orleans, Louisiana.

Something missing

I bought this book because I worked on these helicopters in the Air Force during the 1980's. I guess I wanted to revisit history a little. Unfortunately, this book was something of a disappointment. The text of the book seems accurate and quite long and detailed, however, there are a few things missing. I suspect the publisher shipped these books before they proofed them. There is no copy write page. The table of contents lists dozens of figures and photos. There are only 5 photos in the entire book, but there are dozens of empty spaces where the figures and photos would presumably go. There are also no page numbers in the entire book, but the page numbers are used in the table of contents. There is also nothing printed on the spine or on the back cover. I will try to return this copy and perhaps get one that is actually complete as I would very much like to view the book in its entirety. Maybe then I can give it a better review.
Update: I returned the book and within 3 days received a replacement. Unfortunately, the replacement is identical to the first one. No page numbers, most photos missing & no copy write page. Apparently, Amazon doesn't read the reason you returned an item before they ship you a new one. I will return this one for a refund. Don't buy this book.

Ken Williamson is a software engineer and architect with over twenty years of experience in the technology industry. Ken's first programming language was Assembly language using the 6502 chip. He moved on to C and C++ and eventually to Java and JavaScript. Ken has designed and written mobile, desktop and server software for some of the biggest companies in the world.

Ken holds a BS in Computer Science from Kennesaw State University. He is the founder of several Open Source projects including Ulbora CMS. learning ^bad AngularJS

I hate writing bad reviews because of all the work and resources that go into a book. However, I bought this based on the O'Reilly brand to help a coworker get up to speed with AngularJS. Within a few minutes of looking over the book I wanted to throw it in the trash. This book was released in March 2015 and claims to address AngularJS 1.3, but doesn't reflect fundamentally important changes to things like controllers. The first thing that caught my eye is it teaches the pre- 1.2 $scope binding instead of the clearer controllerAs/this syntax.. which is a big deal. There's other annoyances, like suggesting you spend time setting up netbeans or focusing on rest, but not mentioning the word asynchronous, much less discussing $q, .then, promises, or resolve. I've wasted enough resources on this book. The only thing I like was the amount of focus on testing, hence the two stars, but I doubt the reader could make anything worth testing based off the information the author provided. THIS WAS MY FIRST TERRIBLE O'REILLY BOOK. DON'T MAKE IT YOURS.

Great intro for someone who has experience with JavaScript, MVC frameworks, CLI package managers and Unit testing

I was starting a new contract that used angular, which I had never used before, so I bought this book and AngularJS Web Application Development by Matt Frisbie. I read this book fairly quickly, on the flight down to the contract gig. It was a great intro to angular for someone like myself who has experience with JavaScript, MVC frameworks, CLI package managers and Unit testing.

This book was way too basic for my needs. This may be because it's a year old and Angular is changing quickly, but I bought this instead of "AngularJS: Up and Running" because "Learning AngularJS" was publishing more recently. The book took far too much time on repeating its unit testing methods, when I really just wanted to learn syntax and all the features in Angular.

Gain clarity and hone your mission/vision/purpose

First time I read this is was a "must read" for a group I am in for my business. I checked it out of the library and forced my self to get through it - quickly. I read it with that frame of mind - get this done. Months later everyone is still talking about this book so I figured I needed to delve in again. Bought the digital version and decided I would read with intent this time - and WOW! I took notes, highlighted - interacted with each question.

This book is so very powerful at helping you unravel "your story" - why you think and react the way to do and helps you identify areas of your life that are holding you back from achieving in your life. I had so many truths revealed to me as I pondered the questions that Gay poses.

Learn to live in the ZONE of GENIUS -- get out of the Zone of excellence or zone of competence where most of us stay. Your Zone of Genius is the set of activities you are uniquely suited to do. This book will help you DEFINE them.

The Four barriers that hold us back:
1. Believing we are fundamentally flawed somehow
2 False belief that by succeeding we are being disloyal to people in our past
3. False belief we are a burden in the world.
4. False belief that we must dim our own "light" so we won't outshine someone in our past.

Learn how to identify your "Upper Limit Problem" - the thoughts and actions that HOLD YOU DOWN.

I encourage you to use this as a text- take notes, highlight..etc. very powerful read. I loved the digital format because now I can go back to the list of my notes and highlights and read through them easily - what a gem!

Find Your Way to Work in the Zone of Genius!

Sometimes, you pick up a book and just can't put it down. Something grabs you right away and pulls you along. It's like the author is speaking directly to you. That was the case with this one. There were a number of themes in this book that resonated with me and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This book is all about understanding limiting beliefs, discovering from where they are derived, and learning how to bust through your self-imposed upper limit to realize your full potential.

We learn about the four hidden barriers that many of us impose on ourselves that may limit us. It may be one particular item that's limiting us or a combination of a couple. The hidden barriers are as follows:

1 • Feeling Fundamentally Flawed
2 • Disloyalty and Abandonment
3 • Believing That More Success Brings a Bigger Burden
4 • The Crime of Outshining

The author does a good job of detailing each of the hidden beliefs. Many times, it's deep-rooted from our early years and we may not even recognize that we have these hidden beliefs.

The author speaks of working in different "zones." There's the Zone of Incompetence, the Zone of Competence, the Zone of Excellence, and the Zone of Genius, the ultimate Zone where we should play.

The book is filled with all kinds of great suggestions for finding your way past your upper limit and finding your way into the Zone of Genius.

The biggest takeaway for me was the Ultimate Success Mantra. This is something you say to yourself when you meditate. It's something you say aloud to yourself. It's something you program into your neural pathways so you never forget and I happen to like it word for word. The Ultimate Success Mantra is,

"I expand in abundance, success, and love every day and I inspire others around me to do the same."

The only language I've added to it is, "so I may serve more people" and I've inserted this right after the word "day."

This book was published in 2010. It garners a 4.7 rating after 505 reviews on Amazon and a 4.06 on Goodreads with 3,062 ratings and 253 reviews. I actually gave it a 5-star rating and I'm inspired to check out more by Gay Hendricks.

Fabulous Read

I read this book upon recommendation after studying the topic of success during the past year. I felt the first 100 pages read a bit slowly however, it significantly picked up from there, and I flew through the second half of the book. I had never heard of the Einstein Approach to time, which rocked my world as I read it. I had to reread parts of it out loud to those around me, it was such a paradigm shift for me. If you are looking for ways to improve yourself, and you are ready to take full responsibility for yourself, then this book should quickly move up your list of top favorites in the arena of self help. I am so grateful this book has come into my life and plan to reread it annually to ensure I incorporate all of the concepts within. This was a FABULOUS recommendational read for me.

Needed resource for spiritual warfare

This book deals with spiritual warfare in a biblical way. The author admits that some of his arguments are reasoned from the Bible and not spelled out exactly in the Bible. It is very riveting reading and a must have for people that deal in spiritual warfare

Shoud Be Required Reading

I own this complete series, and every book is valuable and important, including this one. It has made me understand my place, and Christianity's place in spreading the gospel, as well as why it is so adamantly fought against. On a personal level, it really helps me not to take the rejection of Christ personally, but to continue to pray, pray, pray to battle the forces that attempt to silence the Gospel as I continue to be the Hands and Feet of Christ to those who are perishing. C. Peter Wagner is one of my favorite Christian authors, along with Neil Anderson. I've seen him in person, and he is a very sincere and knowledgeable man.

Thought provoking

Although I don't identify 100% as a Christian, I found this book useful and thought provoking; anyone and everyone can use "spiritual protection" "psychic protection" whatever you want to call it. There are dark forces in the world, and it's wise to use all the information you can get to combat it.

Full of color photos

I liked this book because i could look up pictures of many different fish. it has a lot of general information on livebearers and egg layers. what i did not like was: 1. The information about the fish and the photos were not together. After you read something about a fish you had to look it up seperatly to find a picture of it. there was information on some fish that were not pictured and pictures of some fish with no information on them. 2. there is no fish disease section 3. they talk about plants but there are no pictures of them 4, the filters they talk about are mostly outdated... no modern type filters like wet/dry or cannister, biotypes. if you want a cheap book that explains about breeding and to use it to identify fish this is a good one. The new hybrids are not included though and there is way too much information on the origination and patent of the ______ fish [i forgot, it was a section that i skipped] To be honest I just use the book for pictures only so I can look up the information elsewhere like on the internet.

SUPERIOR BOOK ON FISH

Despite the fact that Dr. Axelrod wrote the text over 20-25 years ago, it is an excellent source for the various aquarium topics that all aquarium keepers eventually run across and need a reference book.
Information about various equipment and supplies are outdated but that information can be found in many different sources. If that is a major interest, this book will not help you. However, it does provide rich and detailed material about diseases, fish anatomy, fish behavior and requirements for aquariums.
This book delivers useful and detailed information that leaves nothing to the imagination.

Tropical Aquarium Fishes

This book is good but published in 1990. It replaced my old Exotic Aquarium Fish, Innis published 1954. Axelrod has beautiful pictures, information on tanks, feeding, cleaning, heaters, filters, etc. Much has changed in recent years and some equipment and care information needs modification. As a definitive guide the book is great when used with advice from the pet store. Be sure to find the fish expert if the pet store is a National Chain, or go to a special Aquarium shop or small local pet store that has Aquarium fish.

Not that innocent

Whilst the reason for writing Anna's story is clear to me, i feel that the way in which Donaghy portrayed Anna was too glorified. Yes we do need to do something about the level of substance abuse in our society and i will credit Donaghy for at least trying. It was a tragedy that Anna died, especially to all who new her. I dont agree with the way that DOnaghy has written this book however, of the factors she choses to blame. She blames the lack of drug education within schools, she blames her friends. How much more education does Anna need then to see one of her friends overdose and see another trapped in the vicious drug cycle, how stupid was she really...? and as for blaming her "hardcore druggie" friends, Anna had also previously experimented with LSD, marajuanna, speed and smoked regularly. How can they blame her friends when she was just as bad? Anna is portrayed as being innocent. quote: "anna really repsected mum and dad to the point where she wouldnt do something they wouldnt like" by Alice, anna's sister. how respectufyl had she been with her previous drug experimenting. how respectful was she the night she decieved her parents and attended an all nigth rave party when they thought she was watching movies at a friends. Whislt it may have been a tragedy that Anna died and i condemn Dongaghy's purpose for writhing this book, Anna was not an innocent as she is portrayed. She had experimented with quite heavey substances before and was decieving and manipulative that night she took that fatal ecstacy tablet. Yes something does need to be done but blaming Anna's friends and the lack of education does not compensate for Anna's own decision that ultimately killed her.

Many Questions Unanswered

While Anna's Story is probably the most comprehensive account available on the death of Anna Wood, it is quite disappointing for those who want to understand why the 15 year old high school studnet died. As one gets further into the book, it becomes apparent that Bronwyn Donaghy is not just reporting the circumstances of Ms Wood's death but also has a specific agenda she wants to put across: namely, that illicit drugs are bad and that more should be done to stop young people using them. That the author adopts this position in recounting the story of Anna's death is not in itself problematic; the problem is rather that Donaghy does not really discuss the merits of her position, preferring instead to rely on the tragedy of Anna Wood's death to justify this position on drug use. The result for the reader is that many important questions are left unanswered.

Firstly, it is not at all clear why Anna died when her friends, who had also taken ecstasy, did not. To some extent this is explained because ecstasy has different effects on different people, but we are not given much information of what it was about Anna's case that ensured she suffered differently to her friends. Donaghy reveals how this is partly explained by Anna's suffering from hyponatremia (water intoxication), though this leaves the reader with the impression that Anna would have lived after taking the ecstasy had she simply not drunk so much water. It is clear, nonetheless, that Donaghy believes ecstasy is far more dangerous than that, but again the reasons for this view are not put straight-forwardly across.

Furthermore, the more fundamental questions concerning Donaghy's position on drug use are left unanswered. Anna Wood lived in a time when drug education in schools was commonplace, yet she still took illicit drugs (it is revealed that she had used ecstasy, marijuana, and speed on three different occasions prior to her fatal consumption of ecstasy). Indeed, illicit drug use among high school students existed for a long time prior to Anna Wood's death and continues to this day, but the reasons why teenagers (and adults for that matter) engage in this activity are not addressed by Donaghy. Donaghy quotes a variety of sources critical of drug decriminalisation who argue for stricter policing to end drug use, but the reader again may want to challenge this position given that tougher drug penalties have been advocated for a long time yet illicit drug use continues.

Ultimately, "Anna's Story" is disappointing for the inquiring reader because Donaghy does not provide answers to these questions. While we get a fairly good overview of the circumstances that led to Anna's death and the people affected by it, we are left unconvinced by the position Donaghy advocates as a result of this event, if only because she does not seem to explain it in greater detail.

What a sweet book mate!

I wish there were more books like this that inform teens and their parents of the dangers of different substances! And it's even more important that it's true because it touches my heart even more! Although i didn't know anna, i wish i did! I can relate her story to my life so accurately! My life is so much the same as hers! What a champ she is! I wish i could've met her! Love forever Becky
