What you will get from this book

This book will guide you in transforming a simple HTML page into a responsive one. It will demonstrate how to use Bootstrap's grid system to create a multi-column layout. It will also guide you in creating a navigation bar, different types of menus (with or without dropdowns), buttons, icons, modal and tables.

The book will also cover forms and form validations, where you will create a Sign Up page with some validation procedures to examine the data entered and display a warning when appropriate.

Needless to say, this book will be incomplete without a lesson on customizing Bootstrap to fit your own style. The book will cover light customization that will illustrate how you can change fonts, colors and background images to make the page your own.

Light customization however is good only for minimal changes in the design. To tweak the design further, you will be better off using LESS. Therefore one chapter will be dedicated to demonstrate the customization using LESS.

Towards the end of the book, we will throw in some more Bootstrap components that can increase your site's appeal. You will learn about Carousel, Affix, Scrollspy, Tooltip, Popover, Collapse and Progress Bar. If you already have any clue as to what HTML and CSS are, you're probably too advanced for this book.

This was a waste of money. It was sold as a quick guide to Bootstrap development, and I was expecting just that - a guide, perhaps with some valuable reference information.

What I found instead is a book that gives a very basic introduction to HTML and CSS, and then some of the more basic Bootstrap features, in the context of a single example application that is built throughout the chapters. I honestly leafed through this entire book in about 20 minutes and didn't find anything for which I would recommend buying it.

Several pages in, it states: "Who should NOT buy this book: If you are able to learn on your own by perusing the online documentation provided by Bootstrap, you do not need this book. Before opening your wallet, check out Bootstrap's official site and give it a go."

Good advice. I had already gone through Bootstrap's site, and there was nothing in this book that was new. While I might have recommended it for absolute beginners, the number of outright mistakes and errors peppered throughout it prevent me from doing so. Many of the mistakes are in the CODE examples, which will be incredibly frustrating for someone trying to get Bootstrap to work for the first time.

Good book for beginners

The book has been updated since I wrote my review below. It has more contents and covers more areas. The part about the progress bar actually helped solved the problem I had been struggling for a while. The explanation on LESS is good too.

I gave three stars before. One additional star for the additional contents, and another star for listening to readers' input and improving the book. I like that.

Pros:

It does exactly what it says. It really is step by step. The book guides the web page development starting from scratch and building up to a real web page. (The end result is nice, actually. I like it).

Well illustrated, well explained. Very easy to understand. It gets me started to build my own page really quick. Never thought bootstrap is this easy.

Cons:

It does not cover everything. The book left me wanting more.

All in all, It is worth the money. Recommended only if you are completely new to bootstrap.

This book is in bad need of some basic editing - incredible number of errors

This book is in bad need of some basic editing. (UPDATE - DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK)

For starters: do a search and replace for the word "Codes" and change them all to "Code." (yes, it is that bad - basic grammar and programming vernacular issues).

Also, we open up pages IN web browsers not, ON web browsers.

If you follow along with the code examples in the book, building your project as you go, you will find that the examples have gaps. For example, in the chapter on form validation (pages 80 & 81); the code example references ids on the form-group divs and submit button. The problem there is, if you build the form following along with the book (on page 69 - 70) those Ids were never added to the form and there is nothing subsequently that tells you to add them - you can of course (as I did) deduce that they are missing and add them, but that is not the job of the reader/learner - it should be the job of the writer and technical reviewer or editor (which apparently do not exist in this case) to ensure the book doesn't have gaps like this.

The validation code at the top of page 85 does not work because there is a missing $.

The modal example in chapter 10 is completely broken if you follow along with the book. What is the issue? On page 88 the code says to add the class modal-fade to the loginModal form, however if you download the code example (that does work) and compare it to the broken example provided in the book, you will notice that there is no modal-fade class in bootstrap, it is really two classes modal and fade meaning the code should read class="modal fade" and not class="modal-fade" as it is in the book. To me this is a big issue as understanding what CSS classes are made available by bootstrap and how to apply them is precisely the purpose of this book.

I could go on, but I think this gives a pretty accurate idea of what to expect.

This is a tiny book, yet it has more errors than any other book I have ever read (in my life - I am 42) and I read mostly the 600 - 1200 page Apress programming books. I would think it would be fairly easy to find and correct these errors given that this book is so small (it could be read in a couple of hours), so I have to assume this is just carelessness/laziness (combined with a disregard for the reader/customer). I spent most of my time hunting down and correcting the broken examples in the book by comparing it to the working downloadable examples. I have to assume that the people that gave this book positive reviews must not have actually manually created the examples based on the code in the book which exposes how very poor and riddled with inaccuracies this book is. If you have enough of an understanding of html and css to compare and contrast the downloadable code examples against the error filled code in the book you can figure out what the correct solution is (and waste a lot of time of course); if you are new to html and css (which is probably the case if you are reading this book), you will be frustrated and confused as to why your examples don't work - in general this book would be counter productive to your efforts.

Excellent Beginner's Book

Bought this book for a residential wiring class. Found it very clear and useful. There are many, many excellent illustrations as well as photos to show exactly how to do the wiring and also how the physical wiring corresponds to the schematic. Probably the most useful textbook I ever bought.

No, it doesn't have a complete Pok�dex...yet.

A lot of people give this book negative reviews because it doesn't have a complete Pok�dex, which I totally understand. However, the Pok�mon X and Y handbook didn't have one either when the first edition came out, so this one doesn't either. On a little piece of paper inside the inside front cover of the book, it notified me that there would be a complete version coming March 2015. Why they do this, I don't know. But I don't think it's really worth giving the book negative reviews over.

Pros:
1) Lots of colorful illustrations.
2) Complete list telling where each TM is (I really needed this!)
3) Info on the Battle Maison and the Battle Chatelaine sisters' teams (kind of disappointed the Battle Frontier from Emerald wasn't there, but it is what it is. Maybe it'll be added in a DLC).
4) And a lot of other features that would take too long to explain.

Cons:
1) Obviously no National Pok�dex, but there are many online resources for this (Bulbapedia, Pokemondb, Serebii, etc.)

Overall, a really good buy. And I bought it for less than it said on the back cover, so thanks for that, Amazon!

Good Guide, But It's Missing A Complete Pok�mon Index!

After being disappointed with the last Pok�mon strategy guide I was a little hesitant about picking up the guide for the new Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games, but it turns out I'm actually quite pleased with it. That being said I'm still not 100 percent satisfied with this guide! I just wish that they would had included a full Pok�mon Index instead of just an Pok�mon Native Index to the Hoenn Region. Furthermore, I don't understand why the full Official Index guide comes out so late! It's not released until March 2015, and by that time I would had already completed these games. Now that the Index issue is out of the way lets get into what you'll find in this guide, the pros, and of course the cons.

What's In The Guide:

 Detailed Interview with the Creators of Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire.
Hoenn Regional Map
 Detailed walkthrough of the two games that include training, routes, cities, and gyms information.
 Belief Pok�mon Index of the Hoenn Region. This Index shows you the Pok�mon's type, egg group, ability, hidden ability, and main way to obtain them.
 Adventure Data: Gives players information about items in the games, and and their effects.
 And much more that's too much to list here.

Pros:

 Very Detailed Walkthrough with tons of information, and useful tips.
 Detailed maps and images of the games.
 Tips on completing your Index
 Thick book with lots of helpful information.

Cons
 Doesn't offer players a complete Pok�mon Index, and the full Index is released way too late. The missing Complete Index is really the only con, but it's a big one!

Bottom line:

This guide is a nice addition to the two games, but it's missing some critical information about the Index, but at the same time the walkthrough itself is very useful and is filled with other important information. I just wish that Nintendo would release the Pok�mon Index a lot sooner. That all being said this guide is still worth getting if you're a completist and want to find every little thing Pok�mon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire has to offer.

5 Star guide!

Definitely a 5 star guide book. I haven't used a guide book in quite some time, but its absolutely required for this game. I tried playing the game without the guide and I missed out on so much (even though I played the original Ruby and Sapphire pretty much to death!), and half of the things I discovered so far are the most fun things about the game. I would absolutely recommend buying this guide, and you will get it much cheaper on Amazon than you will at the store!

This guide has maps, exact trainer locations, exact item locations, even information on hidden items (the ones you find with the item finder)and pretty much everything you would want in a strategy guide. Previously some of the guides were missing the exact item and trainer locations and I didn't like that, I bought the guides to get all of the information, and that is why I pay for them, not to purposely have things left out because the publisher was lazy!

I noticed this guide book is made by The Pokemon Company which is a very good thing, since that means its an offical Nintendo Published/endorsed guide. Previously the guides were made by Nintendo power, but then Nintendo Power stopped publication of guides and the magazine, so then the guides were made by Prima. I felt that the prima guides were very poor quality and left out a lot of info that should have been there (I was better off playing the games without the guides). I will never buy a Prima guide, again, I don't know how they are still around.

About the Author

Mitch Abrams, PsyD, is a clinician administrator for University Correctional HealthCare/UMDNJ, where he is responsible for the delivery of mental health services for 6 of the state’s 13 state prisons. Dr. Abrams co-coordinates the forensic track of UMDNJ’s predoctoral psychology internship and has been involved with several aspects of advancing the quality of mental health services in prison systems. He is a clinical assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and has held adjunct faculty positions at Brooklyn College, C.W. Post, and Fairleigh Dickinson University. Since 2000, he has been in private practice providing sport, clinical, and forensic psychology services.

Dr. Abrams began consulting with athletes in 1997 while developing the only comprehensive anger management program for athletes. He has created a niche in using anger management training to assist athletes in reaching peak performance on the field and in life. He has consulted with thousands of athletes and has developed programs for athletic organizations at the youth sport, high school, and college levels. He is the founder and president of Learned Excellence for Athletes, a sport psychology consulting company located in Fords, New Jersey.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Abrams received a bachelor of science degree from Brooklyn College and earned a master of science degree in applied psychology and a doctorate of psychology (PsyD) in clinical psychology from C.W. Post/Long Island University. He also received specialized training in family violence and anger management. He is a full member of the American Psychological Association as well as its Division 47 (Exercise and Sport Psychology) and Division 41 (American Psychology-Law Society). A beautiful coffee-table book with text, it displays and briefly explains the outward meaning of the symbols of the Craft. Translated from French, it gives a view of the universality of Freemasonry and at the same time, its variety. Inasmuch as it reflects both the diversity of the Craft and its universality, it is a reminder of what our Founding Fathers meant when they coined the motto E pluribus unum for The Great Seal of the United State.

This is a good book for Freemasons in the English-speaking world inasmuch as for intelligent and attentive members of the Craft, it suggests the subtle differences that exist between the French and the Americans.

Beautifully illustrated, this book is extremely well done.

I would recommend this book to anyone belonging to or interested in the Masonic fraternity. It becomes more interesting in that it is a translation of work originally written by a French Mason and therefore portions are unfamiliar to those of us familiar with Freemasonry in the U.S. Again the illustrations are splendid and would be worthy without the text. The thoughtful description of the Fraternity only adds to the value of this most intersting explanation of Masonic allegory and symbology.
