Enjoyed every page!

Schroeder writes with keen insight into, among other things, the learning process and (security) culture mechanics, and provides a refreshing amount of actually useful tips on how to plan, implement and/or improve your security awareness program - not a given when it comes to the majority of existing literature on the topic. Difficult subject-matter is presented in a clear and easy to understand way (even for a non-native English speaker), and most chapters include several "question boxes" that stops you in the track to ponder how the various points apply to you in your own organizational context.

I can definitively see myself returning to this book again and again when trying to mature our Security Awareness program, to deal with specific challenges or "difficult" audiences, or simply to reignite the creative spark when the program is starting to feel stale.

If anything, the author should consider elaborating a bit more on specific topics and expanding the chapters somewhat - the chapter on e.g. Metrics is sadly too short and general - and maybe even throw in an extra appendix with checklists and planning tools that will help the reader apply the lessons learned. But maybe that's something for the sequel?

Great for quick meals! My new go-to raw book.

I have been a fan of Doug McNish since I stumbled upon his recipes on Blisstree last year. I made his sour cream and onion kale chips and his pumpkin pie. Both were simple and delicious. When I heard he had a whole book out, I had to get it immediately! So far I have only tried a few things - you can see I added my photo of the banana bread with cashew whipped cream. It was FANTASTIC! I also made cashew spinach dip, packed with a whole head of fresh spinach, lots of lemon juice and black pepper and cheesy nutritional yeast. I ate it for dinner with carrot sticks and celery sticks and it was so filling I took the other half for lunch - and I halved the recipe to begin with. If you are just cooking for yourself, I would cut some of the recipes in half if you don't think you'll want to eat more than one set of leftovers. His recipes are really flexible and seem to come out delicious no matter what you do! I have read all the raw books - we know who the "main" people are in this world - and their recipes just don't come out right all the time. Someone can be a great chef without creating great adaptable recipes. Thankfully, Doug is both! I can't say enough good things about this book, just buy it, trust me! Or, if you want to try it out, request it at your local library - mine is ordering a copy already.

Recipes look/sound better than they taste

After trying several of the recipes in this book during the past week, I decided to check this site to see others' opinions (I had forgotten). Based on my results (disappointing), I was shocked at the 5-Star rating. The recipes I've tried seem flawed. In my opinion, they would require significant modifications in order to (maybe) make them worth trying again. My first attempt was the Cheesy Nori Snacks. There is no way 1/4 cup of Cashew Cheddar Cheese will produce a 1-inch layer on a sheet of nori -- surely a misprint. And, how long would it take a layer that thick to dehydrate? Long enough to go bad, I'm sure! The Walnut Portobello Burgers were tasty, but way too salty with both tamari and salt. I'm currently dehydrating the Thai-Style Nuts 'n' Bolts, and can already tell that there is too much sauce for the quantity of nuts, and that once dehydrated, it will taste too strong. There is also an error in this recipe, which omits what to do with the cumin and chili powder in the instructions. The Green Coconut Curried Vegetables also contain too much sauce for the quantity of vegetables. I reduced the water from 3/4 cup to about 2T, realizing it would be more like a soup than a "main event". Again, too much salt -- 2 tsp for 2 1/2 cups of fresh vegetables??? I reduced it to 1/2 tsp. The Mega-Green Hemp Bowl was actually pretty good, once the salt was reduced. But, we tried it with the Spicy Miso Dressing, and found the flavour too strong. Perhaps I've just made poor choices in which recipes to try. There is nothing subtle about the flavour of this food. And, if eating raw/vegan/gluten-free is supposed to be healthy, why so much salt? So far, I much prefer the recipes in "I Am Grateful -- Recipes & Lifestyle of Cafe Gratitude".

I bought one for my daughter too and she loves it.
The recipes are simple, the ingredients are easy to find and the ones I have tried taste amazing - Chocolate Walnut Brownies are to die for.

This EKG guide is intended for interns but I think it is just too basic and doesn't achieves its purpose.

The information in this guide is too basic and quality is not good.
It doesn't explain important issues of EKGs as important arrhythmias.
EKG strips are very small and explanations are not good.
Anyone (interns, students...) who needs/requires knowledge about a topic SO VITAL must get a book that is better designed than this one.

The illustrations of ECG strips were very basic and everything was in black & white. Written more like a childrens book. The topic of ECG rhthyms is a bit complex to be written this basic.

EKG Pocket Guide

a very nice size - easy to keep in one's pocket however the illustrations of EKG strips were tiny, poorly printed, and of little use to anyone except a very experienced reader. On the whole, it was a disapointment as the text itself did not provide basic information on most dysrythmias, forcing the reader to go back to a more detailed textbook. I would not order it.

J. Pete Blair is an Associate Professor of Criminal Justice at Texas State University. He is also the Director of Research for the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) center at Texas State. He has also presented his research on active shooter events and police tactics to diverse audiences across the country including the Police Executive Research Forum (PERF), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and Texas Association of School Boards (TASB).

M. Hunter Martaindale - Hunter is a Ph.D. student at Texas State University - School of Criminal Justice. Hunter works as a research assistant for both the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) program and the Texas School Safety Center. His current research projects entail active shooter analysis and improving law enforcement tactics and efficiency.

Police Tactics Finally Based on Empirical Research

This book is the first I have seen that not only argues specific tactics for police and SWAT units, but backs up the tactics with research. Most books and articles in this area push specific tactics but fall short on why certain tactics are recommended. These books are often written by some former or retired police officer, trainer, SWAT operator or military member who prefers a certain tactic over another. This may be all they have ever known and they were never exposed to counter arguments or ways of doing business.

This book actually dissects one of the most common police tactics that draws constant discussion among the tactical circles - room entries. SWAT operators seem to always debate which way is best to enter a room and everyone has safety as the primary concern. The authors in this case take a position of testing several different room entry tactics (the most common typically argued and taught to police officers) and test each one. The results are very interesting and challenge some very long-argued beliefs of many SWAT trainers. If the findings are followed, this research may actually save lives of front-line police officers and SWAT operators.

The policing profession needs more books like this one. Officers need to stop guessing what works and relying on the old adage "this is the way we have always done it" and start reading books like this. This book should be issued to every police officer in the academy as well as every SWAT team member and police tactical trainer.

Informative and research based

The authors do a brilliant job tying the science of research with the everyday tactics used by police. The intention is clearly to improve the safety of police as they go about their daily jobs, and I believe this purpose was achieved.

The findings are written in a manner where a layperson, such as myself, can easily follow what the authors found. These findings are prefaced with a thorough evaluation of the concepts and prior research to justify the benefit of the what is being researched. All around, this is an excellent book. It isn't too long to be daunting and can be easily read in a couple hours.

Buy the book, simple as that.

As described, a very good evaluation of two highly used, and intensely debated, entry techniques with some surprising results such as the innocents shot statistics. Tactics are tactics, and in an environment where a life may depend on it I don't think anyone can afford to not keep up to date with credible research. Yes, the innocents shot statistic may depend on the individuals experience, however, I hope this information provides all the evidence necessary for more range time for all personnel this subject applies to as no incident is ever "for highly experienced officers only", especially with the changes to active shooter response procedures.

I have read reviews of other books that complain about diagrams, writing style, number of pages, etc. which are probably written by arm chair experts. I have rated this book based on the information contained within, including all diagrams.

Good Book - Lacks some things...

I really enjoyed the book and learned a lot about Project 98.
Still, the book said that there would be a FORMS folder in the CD which had many forms that would simplify the whole project development process.
This folder doesn't exist (they forgot to include it in the CD even though it is constantly referred to in the book). I've tried contacting IDG books on numerous occasions but to no avail. It is a good book - I'm just upset they left out a crucial part.
Maybe if they would have used Project 98 to plan all the elements of the book they wouldn't have left it out...

A lot of words on basic stuff

This book doesn't cover much you probably couldn't have figured out on your own. You'll bypass the scope of this book in a couple of days or weeks, at which point you'll want to get something bigger and broader in scope. This book is also WAY too padded with theoretical junk on how project planning works. Isn't Project98 supposed to help bypass a lot of the "theory"?
