Viren Swami is Professor of Social Psychology at Anglia Ruskin University in the UK. He is an international expert on attraction and body image, and has written and edited several books on these topics. He is also the founder of Plug In Your Brain, a public engagement initiative to promote the wider understanding of psychology.

i would be much more eager to pay nearly $30 for a book if it was accessible on kindle unlimited to read first because samples don't truly provide enough information to convince me to make that much of an investment. if i am able to conclude the author has given me a solid product it gives me incentive to consider paying that much to return my appreciation. i suggest you do that or dramatically lower your price because there are many great books on many subjects that only ask for a few dollars and when customers with budgets must decide between one book with a high price or being able to afford for the same price several perfectly informative books only charging a few dollars... quantity is going to win. so please persuade me and others to feel that we are better off purchasing your book because yours seems to be a very promising resource but i'm not so desperate for this knowledge to justify being unwise with my money either.

About the Author
Thomas Williams' thirteen books include fiction, theology, drama, and three books on C.S. Lewis's Narnia. He has written one national bestseller and one Gold Medallion Award finalist, In Search of Certainty, co-authored with Josh McDowell. A career designer/illustrator and C.S. Lewis aficionado, Tom's painting of Lewis hangs in the Wade Collection of Lewis manuscripts and memorabilia at Wheaton College. Tom and his wife, Faye, have three married daughters and eight grandchildren.

Too many problems...

The plot of this story is really very interesting and it could have made a great book but for a few things. The first is that instead of being a Christian allegory or making points in either a subtle or realistic way, the author makes them by having the main characters repeat them over and over. Many conversations between characters basically consist of 2 people exchanging sermon points. The second is that he repeatedly-when describing the "most" beautiful women in the books makes various references to their ample bosoms. At one point he goes so far as to have the princess wish that she had been born "ugly, flat, and angular". He also makes numerous comments about people that are ugly or unattractive being able to still find someone who will love them or still being able to be happy. So...despite 1/2 the book being a sermon the author has still clearly not grasped the truth that every single one of us is a beautiful and wonderful creation of God. Lastly, there is a scene in which a promiscuous character plans to bathe where one of the main characters will see her in hopes that he will be overcome with desire, have sex with her, and then have to marry her. Instead, one of the bad guys sees her and rapes her. It is stated more than once that this is her fault for being naked in front of him. While what she did was obviously wrong it does not- EVER - make rape OK. I read this book in my constant search to find good books for my tweens to read, but no book that blames a woman for her own rape is ever going to make the cut.

It's not just a story, it's an experience!

Tom Williams has a marvelous way of telling a story. You will actually fall in love with the main characters--and right along with them--feel their hurts, fears, disappointments, as well as their ultimate joy and exhilaration. There are profound lessons woven into the story, but they emerge from the characters' wrestling with decisions and their actions rather than tedious, preachy dialogs and monologs. Williams addresses some knotty theological questions, such as how the free will of men and women fits into an unfailing providence revealed in prophecy. But not to the detriment of a beautiful love story.

This book is masterpiece. It comes in second to none, including the works of George MacDonald, J. R. R. Tolkein, and C. S. Lewis.

Don't like spoiled, entitled acting characters, not main ones anyway. This character only gets worse. I was excited about this series, but I don't see any point in going any further if all I want to do is slap some common sense into someone.......I review some of what I read. I usually give a star rating......If I rate one. I read over 200 books a year, this series is a disappointment. I rarely read Anything Not paranormal. I avoid shifter specific and vamp specific books. This series had a LOT going for it. Disappointed...

It was ok

I found this series entertaining, there were some funny moments. I really liked Jones and Angelo but Trinket was at times annoying and selfish, but I at the end I believe she learned what's important. I hope there's a book 4, I would like to know what happens between Trinket and Angelo and how Rachel is taking it. Also I would like to read Jones story and hopefully his happily ever after.

This book offers valuable insight into a specific leadership style as exhibited by Ancelotti. Some are direct leaders who use a command style when managing people. Others use a quieter, more collaborative and subtle approach that sometimes go against the grain of what the romantic notion of a leader is as formed by pop culture.

Ancelotti is not over-bearing or dictatorial. He compels his players to do the right thing and leads by setting an example as someone who is calm under pressure, slow to anger, and keeps in mind the well-being of the person when navigating the obstacles within the high-pressure and complex world of modern day football management.

This book offers the reader insight into how Ancelotti's leadership style was used throughout his career and provides guidance as to how his techniques can be used at all levels of management.

Between the carrot and the stick approach, Ancelotti's style uses the carrot. Is that he best way? That's up for you to decide, but you will undoubtedly come away with a respect for his style once you read his anecdotes. Best of all, the book contains sections where his former players and colleagues tell you exactly what they think of his style.

It's a must read for every sports coach and manager in any field.

If possible get the latest version, this was written and published in 1999. It's probably not very helpful if you are taking a course in child psychology.

Much room for improvement

I noticed that there will be a new edition of this text - I hope the authors took the criticisms of the old edition to heart. After using this book for a child development course, I was horrified to see how indeed very racist some parts of this book are. And it's the kind of new-age, oblivious breed of racism that is ironically based in a compulsion to be "diverse" and politically correct.
The depiction of the black family was too stereotypical - and thus offensive - for words. It almost became a satire of middle-class liberal racism, because the story of "Malcolm and Momma Jo" is obviously the way that the authors perceive the lifestyle of a typical African American family. Sroufe, et al should be ashamed of themselves.
These comments are meant to be constructive. I'm actually passionate about my psychology studies, have a 4.0 and hope to be a psychiatrist. I feel incredibly disappointed, shortchanged and offended to have had this book as our required text.

Bad book, Bad.

Admittedly, I've just started reading this book, it was assigned for a class. But it is multi-culturalism gone bad. I tend to believe that including a cross section of people from all cultures is a good idea, but not if done like this. It is so prejudicial, it hurts to read. The authors' racism just shines through for the first 150 pages, and I doubt it will get better as I continue to read. And they're lack of self awareness to their prejudice is just scary. This book should not be used as an educational tool. It shouldn't be used at all without major revising. Don't buy it. Don't assign it. Don't give them any money - this type of writing should not be encouraged.
